Abstract

|
We would like to compare the case of treatment using surgical operation with the case of treatment using conservative method to the patients who are diagnosed as cervical disc herniation. This study has been done with each 21 and 83 patients who were available for 1 year -100 patients who had cervical disc herniation were treated with surgical operation and 175 patients were treated with conservative treatment in Chungnam National University Hospital. Each of convalescence were compared to odom’s criteria along with the age of outbreak of illness, numbers of diseased segments, which is calculated by loss of radiating pain, subjective satisfaction, and return to their job. The group who are over 60 years old, surgical treatment had positive result. Also the group who are under 60 years old, conservative treatment had positive result. Radiculopathy due to cervical disc herniation had good result by surgical treatment when the patient is over 60 years old and has a few diseased segments. Therefore, it is considered that we should take a cautious attitude in choice of treatment.
